Atlantic_ESL_Intro_Concepts.pngWelcome to your ESL PD for August! The focus this month is to give everyone an introduction to English as a Second Language in Atlantic, Iowa, making sure we are all on the same page this year. After visiting this page, please complete the following:

1. If you are not already a member of wikispaces.com, please click on "Join" in the top right corner of this window to open your own free account. It is not necessary to request membership from our AtlanticESL wiki. Simply being a member of the general wikispaces will allow you to post your reflections for each month's ESL professional development.

2. Browse through our AtlanticESL wiki to get familiar with the resources that are here for your support in developing the English language proficiency of your English language learners, remembering that the site is still in its developmental stage and will be continually added to the entire year.

3. Then come back to this page (Monthly P.D./Atlantic ESL Introduction) and take the Atlantic ESL Introduction Quiz using the following link: http://www.quia.com/quiz/3228774.html. Your username will be your firstnamelastname107 and all passwords are ESL. For PD documentation purposes, you will need to log into the quiz using your name and the "secret word" August.

4. Lastly, come back to this page and click on the blue "Discussion" tab toward the top of this window and post a reflection on the following two items: 1) what you found most interesting about the information you learned through the tutorial quiz and 2) something you found on our wiki that you feel might really help you this year in supporting the development of the ELL(s) in your classroom and/or something you didn't see here but would like to see.

Thank you for all your positive efforts and time with the English language learners in our district and in partnering together in professional development to strengthen the sheltered English instruction we provide for them. I look forward to working with each one of you throughout this school year!
